दक्षिणेश्वर मन्दिर में बलराम आदि के साथ
बलराम को शिक्षा
आज मंगलवार है , दिन का पिछला प्रहर , 24 अक्टूबर 1882 | तीन-चार बजे होंगे। श्रीरामकृष्ण मिठाई की ताक के पास खड़े हैं। बलराम और मास्टर कलकत्ते से एक ही गाड़ी पर चढ़ कर आये हैं, और प्रणाम कर रहे हैं । प्रणाम करके बैठने पर श्रीरामकृष्ण हँसते हुए कहने लगे , " ताक पर से कुछ मिठाई लेने गया था , मिठाई पर हाथ रखा ही था कि एक छिपकली बोल उठी , तुरंत हाथ हटा लिया। (सब हँसे। )
{ "I was going to take some sweets from the shelf, but no sooner did I put my hand on them than a lizard dropped on my body. (The dropping of a lizard on the body is considered an omen.) At once I removed my hand. (All laugh.)
लक्षण। सत्यभाषण।* कामिनी-कांचन ही माया है।
श्रीरामकृष्ण - यह सब * मानना चाहिए। देखो न, राखाल बीमार पड़ गया ; मेरे भी हाथ-पैर में दर्द हो रहा है। क्या हुआ , सुनो। सुबह को उठते ही मैंने राखाल आ रहा है सोचकर अमुक का मुख देख लिया था । (सब हँसते हैं। )
हाँ जी , लक्षण भी देखना चाहिए। उस दिन नरेन्द्र एक काने लड़के को लाया था , - उसका मित्र है ; आँख बिल्कुल कानी नहीं थी ; जो हो , मैंने सोचा - नरेन्द्र यह आफत का पुतला कहाँ से लाया !
{"Oh, yes! One should observe all these things. You see, Rakhal is ill, and my limbs ache too. Do you know what's the matter? This morning as I was leaving my bed I saw (Orthodox Hindus in Bengal believe that the first face seen in the morning indicates whether the day will bring good or evil.) a certain person, whom I took for Rakhal. (All laugh.) Oh, yes! Physical features should be studied. The other day Narendra brought one of his friends, a man with only one good eye, though the other eye was not totally blind. I said to myself, 'What is this trouble that Narendra has brought with him?'
" और एक आदमी आता है ; मैं उसके हाथ की कोई चीच नहीं खा सकता। वह ऑफिस में काम करता है , बीस रुपया महीना पाता है और बीस रुपया न जाने कैसा झूठा बिल लिखकर पाता है। वह झूठ बोलता है , इसलिए आने पर उससे बहुत नहीं बोलता। कभी तो दो-दो चार-चार दिन ऑफिस जाता ही नहीं , यहीं पड़ा रहता है। किस मतलब से जानते हो ? - मतलब यह कि किसी से कह -सुन दूँ तो दूसरी जगह नौकरी हो जाय। "
{"A certain person comes here, but I can't eat any food that he brings. He works in an office at a salary of twenty rupees and earns another twenty by writing false bills. I can't utter a word in his presence, because he tells lies. Sometimes he stays here two or three days without going to his office. Can you guess his purpose? It is that I should recommend him to someone for a job somewhere else.
बलराम का वंश परम् वैष्णवों का वंश है। बलराम के पिता वृद्ध हो गए हैं , - परम् वैष्णव हैं। सिर पर शिखा है , गले में तुलसी की माला है , हाथ में सदा ही माला लिए जप करते रहते हैं। उड़ीसा में इनकी बहुत बड़ी जमीन्दारी है और कोठार , श्रीवृन्दावन तथा और भी कई जगह श्रीराधाकृष्ण विग्रह की सेवा होती है और धर्मशाला भी है। बलराम अभी पहले-पहल आने लगे हैं। श्रीरामकृष्ण बातों बातों में उन्हें उपदेश दे रहे हैं।
श्रीरामकृष्ण - उस दिन अमुक आया था। सुना है, उस कालिकलूटि स्त्री का गुलाम है। -ईश्वर - दर्शन क्यों नहीं होते ? क्योंकि बीच में कामिनी-कांचन की आड़ जो है। .....मन की वर्तमान अवस्था के अनुसार मैं माँ काली का प्रसाद के रूप में चढ़ा मांस भी मैं नहीं खा सकता , लेकिन अपनी तर्जनी से जीभ पर छुला देता हूँ , कहीं माँ नाराज न हो जायें। (सब हँसते हैं।)
{"In my present state of mind I can eat a little fish soup if it has been offered to the Divine Mother beforehand. I can't eat any meat, even if it is offered to the Divine Mother; but I taste it with the end of my finger lest She should be angry. (Laughter.)
*पूर्व कथा -बर्दवान के मार्ग में- देश यात्रा-नकुड़-आचार्य का गाना सुनना ।*
“अच्छा, कहो तो मेरी क्या अवस्था है? उस देश को जा रहा था, बर्दवान से उतरकर; बैलगाड़ी पर बैठा था-ऐसे समय जोर की आँधी चली और पानी बरसने लगा । इधर न जाने कहाँ से गाड़ी के पीछे कुछ आदमी आ गए । मेरे साथी कहने लगे, ये डाकू हैं । तब मैं ईश्वर का नाम जपने लगा, परन्तु कभी तो राम राम जपता और कभी काली काली, कभी हनुमान हनुमान, -सब तरह से जपने लगा; कहो तो यह क्या है?”
{"Well, can you explain this state of my mind? Once I was going from Burdwan to Kamarpukur in a bullock-cart, when a great storm arose. Some people gathered near the cart. My companions said they were robbers. So I began to repeat the names of God, calling sometimes on Kali, sometimes on Rama, sometimes on Hanuman. What do you think of that?"
श्रीरामकृष्ण क्या ऐसा कह रहे हैं कि ईश्वर एक है और उसके नाम असंख्य, भिन्न धर्मावलंबी वा सम्प्रदायों के लोग क्या ऐसे ही मिथ्या झगड़ा करके मर रहे हैं ?
{Was the Master hinting that God is one but is addressed differently by different sects?
(बलराम से)-“कामिनी-कांचन ही माया है । इसके भीतर अधिक दिन तक रहने से होश चला जाता है, -ऐसा जान पड़ता है कि खूब मजे में है । मेहतर विष्ठा का भार ढोता है; ढोते ढोते फिर घृणा नहीं होती । भगवन्नाम-कीर्तन का अभ्यास करने ही से भक्ति होती है । (मास्टर से) इसमें लजाना नहीं चाहिए । लज्जा, घृणा और भय इस तीनों के रहते ईश्वर नहीं मिलता ।”
{MASTER (to Balaram): "Maya is nothing but 'woman and gold'. A man living in its midst gradually loses his spiritual alertness. He thinks all is well with him. The scavenger carries a tub of night-soil on his head, and in course of time loses his repulsion to it. One gradually acquires love of God through the practice of chanting God's name and glories. (To M.) One should not be ashamed of chanting God's holy name. As the saying goes, 'One does not succeed so long as one has these three: shame, hatred, and fear.'
“उस देश में बड़ा अच्छा कीर्तन करते हैं, -खोल (मृदंग) लेकर कीर्तन करते हैं । नकुड़ आचार्य का गाना बड़ा अच्छा है । वृन्दावन में तुम्हारी ओर से सेवा होती है ?”
बलराम- जी हाँ, एक कुंज है- श्यामसुन्दर की सेवा होती है ।
श्रीरामकृष्ण- मैं वृन्दावन गया था । निधुवन बड़ा सुन्दर स्थान है ।
